Swinburne A. J. Augustine, Ph.D.

Dr. Augustine is an Editorial Board Member of the international journal Frontiers in Environmental Microbiology responsible for the quality of the articles published in the journal and Reviewer Board Member of several established scientific journals including: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Pathogens, Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease, and Water. He also serves as an ad hoc Reviewer for many other journals including BMC Microbiology, Clinics in Surgery, Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Journal of Microbiological Methods. He is a regular member of two of the foremost international scientific organizations: American Society for Microbiology and American Association of Immunologists; and the International Society of Global Health. He has an impressive publication record and has presented his work at numerous national and international scientific meetings.

Dr. Augustine can also be credited with decorated contributions to the liberation of: Grenada (Operation Urgent Fury) as a member of the Caribbean Regional Security Force allied with U.S. Forces; Panama (Operation Just Cause), and Kuwait (Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm) as an airborne combat medic in the U.S. Army. Dr. Augustine possesses a wealth of knowledge, skills and abilities from his previous occupations as a soldier, Licensed Practical Nurse, Police Officer and News Reporter/Announcer that he believes contribute to his success as a lead researcher. In his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with wife, Twanita and family, volunteering as a Science Fair Judge at local High/Middle schools, playing his Jimi Hendrix Fender Stratocaster guitar, and gardening.

Dr. Augustine has been honored with several awards including the National Exposure Research Laboratory’s Exposure Science Excellence Award and the U.S. EPA Bronze Medal for his contributions to Environmental Public Health research, as well as numerous Commendation, Achievement and Combat Medals during his military service. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Immunology from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, USA and currently resides in Cincinnati, OH, USA.
